WALK from Piddington (Bus 36 Bus Stop)

This is the 40 minute walk from Piddington to the Forest Cafe and information point.

When you get the 36 Bus to Piddington, ask for Salcey Rise.  Buses from Northampton both turn here to go back to Hackleton (on the B526).
The 36 bus runs every two hours, please check the timetable.

From Salcey Rise, turn left, walk up Forest Road (slightly uphill) for about five minutes.
When you see the farm on the right-hand side, carry straight on to join the footpath to Salcey Forest.

The path now goes over an old railway bridge (No. 171).  The railway used to run from Olney to Towcester and beyond.  A history page is here.

Another ten minutes walk will bring you to the edge of the forest.  Enter the forest but ignore the first turning on the right and carry straight on along the main track.

In another five minutes you will reach a main crossroads in the paths.  Turn Right.

You are now on the main forest trail.  When you come to the next major crossroads, you will see the Church Path Oak on your right-hand side.

Carry straight on for another few minutes and on your left-hand side you will see the 20 metre high tower at the end of the Tree Top Walk Way.

At the next staggered crossroads you will see the path on the left (The Elephant Walk)  Follow this path past the entrance to the Tree Top Walk Way
(over the Elephant Pond Bridge). Carry on along the Elephant Walk for another 8 to 10 minutes and you reach the Cafe and Information Point.

At the side of the Information Point there is a hopper which should contain copies of a large map of the forest, which shows all the different walks.

Are you hungry or thirsty?

Here is a map of your walk, so far.
